FTS DOCTRINE, GAMMA MANUAL (RED BINDER)

In cases where an incursion is already occurring or almost about to occur, the FTS must be triggered as soon as is practicable. No time is permissible for standard personnel evacuation procedures. This is known as an immediate trigger, and instantly detonates all warheads without a countdown or warning. Proceed down the following checklist to manually enable and trigger the FTS in immediate mode. The procedure can be accomplished in as little as 60 seconds with prompt action. It can also be used even when a countdown is already in progress; note that a countdown-required manual trigger will not reset the clock of any current countdown.

Note that it is only possible to initiate the manual triggering procedure immediately with the cooperation of the other officer in the secondary vault. If the other officer is incapacitated, the mandatory fifteen-minute countdown is imposed. If the CCS link with Raven is in the FULLY SEVERED condition, however, this countdown is waived and fully independent immediate triggering is available.

IMMEDIATE TRIGGER PROCEDURE

  1. Pick up your RED PHONE and contact the other officer using either the CCS (preferable) or direct hardline (alternative) option on the selector switch. Proceed through mutual authentication, then leave the line open until you prepare to enable. If the second vault is incapacitated or does not respond, proceed regardless.
  2. At the WARHEAD panel, flip the MANUAL CIRCUIT BLOCKING switches for both warhead groups to the UNBLOCKED position.
  3. IF the warheads are not armed, follow the WARHEAD GROUP ENABLE procedure:
    1. Open the GAMMA ESA DN-1 safe with your combination, and retrieve the MANUAL ENABLE CODE BISCUIT. Break the seal to retrieve the metal punch card containing the emergency enable code.
    2. Via the OID and WS VDU, select the FIRING option from the main menu and the WARHEAD ENABLE option from the submenu.
    3. Press the Initiate key.
    4. Wait for the COOP ENABLE message. A countdown will appear. Type the prompted sequence. The second vault must enter its prompted sequence within three seconds.
    5. Observe the SUCCESSFUL COOP ENABLE message on the WS VDU. The PRESENT CODES message is displayed.
    6. Insert the MANUAL ENABLE CODE BISCUIT into the ENABLE CODE SLOT on the WEAPON SYSTEM CONTROLLER panel.
    7. At the WEAPON SYSTEM CONTROLLER panel, turn the ENABLE SWITCH clockwise to the MANUAL ENABLE position and hold it until you see the VALID CODE ACCEPTED message appear on the WS VDU. Release the ENABLE SWITCH and ensure it snaps back to CODE USED.
    8. Confirm that all warhead groups have successfully transitioned to the ENABLED state. Observe the red ARMED light on the WARHEAD PANEL.
  4. At the WEAPON SYSTEM CONTROLLER panel, insert your FIRING KEY into the FIRING KEYSLOT.
  5. Turn the FIRING KEY to the FIRE position at the same time as the other officer (if applicable). If both you and your second have successfully performed the ENABLE procedure, or the CCS link is FULLY SEVERED, the procedure is complete. Otherwise, observe the starting of the COUNTDOWN TIMER with the standard countdown duration present.

Upon successful completion of the manual triggering process, all enabled warhead groups will detonate immediately. The facility, including the DMS vaults, will be destroyed. The CCS bunker, including the black box recorders, will survive the detonation.
