The Calamity Index System (CIS) is a system used by Raven to categorise the potential outcomes of a calamity, such as a dimensional incursion or action by a hostile force. It measures outcomes by magnitude (such as the destruction of a city to the destruction of an entire planet, or a dimension). In CIS, a "casualty" not only refers to people who are killed and injured by a calamity, but also those whose lives experience disruption from said calamity. Calamity Mitigation OPSCOM has operational control over defining index ratings for calamities. Raven also has a tendency to "over-rate" calamities until they fully understand them, effectively rounding up (i.e. a MD-Class 5 calamity might temporarily be ND-Class 1).

Classes

Localised

The Localised Disruption classes range from LD-Class 1 to LD-Class 10, and are ranked in increasing magnitude by population, down from 1-5 casualties all the way to 40-50,000 casualties. Above 50,000 casualties the Metropolitan Disruption classes are used, which range from MD-Class 1 (50,000-100,000 individuals) to MD-Class 10 (500,000,000+ individuals).

The National Disruption classes are used when entire countries or continents experience a calamity, which range from ND-Class 1 (1,000,000,000 individuals) to ND-Class 5 (100,000,000,000 individuals).

Planetary

PD-Class scenarios are used to refer to the destruction of an entire planet. ED-Class scenarios are used to refer to the destruction of Earth specifically, and are ranked higher than PD-Class. SB-Class scenarios refer to the destruction of an entire starbase or other large space colony.

Total

ZR-Class scenarios refer to the complete destruction of Raven itself, while ZH-Class scenarios refer to the destruction of the entirety of humanity. ZD-Class scenarios refer to the destruction of the current dimension, and ZU-Class scenarios result in the complete end of reality.
