DSCR R&M Sentinel Maintenance Procedures
Appendix E, Section 23: Code 23-3 (Redundant Linac Module or Power Supply Malfunction)
Classification: GAMMA - TOP SECRET

All personnel are reminded that Sentinel maintenance is a high-risk activity; you must possess specific training before being permitted to work on such systems. Failure to follow these procedures to the letter can result in severe injury or death. Remember: your life is valuable. Don't waste it.

Step 1. Confirm 23-3 shown on the Master Control Panel mounted in the Supervisory Security Area inside the interior side of the Sentinel protected zone.

Step 2. At the Ingress and Egress Panel, set the Security Ingress/Egress State Switch from the Automatic to the Manual position. Wait for the DCA field light on the exterior door to turn GREEN and the DCA light on the interior door to turn RED.

Step 3. Open Maintenance Overrides Panel and lock the Weapon System Master Isolation Switch in the SEVERED position. Place a RED "Lock Out, Tag Out" padlock into the provided holes and secure in place.

Step 4. Retrieve a high-range radiation detector and dosimeter from the Auxiliary Maintenance and Entry Storage Locker. Make entry to the interior side of the Sentinel antechamber, verifying radiation levels remain below acceptable limits. If at any time levels spike, immediately leave the room and contact superiors.

Step 5. Place the PINK STRIPED KEY into the Local Unlock Panel at the bottom of the Sentinel unit to release the cover, revealing the Local Override Panel. Authenticate with your credentials, and select MAINTENANCE DISENGAGE. After confirming disengagement of the DCA field, release the cover latches and lower the COLLIMATOR GRILLE carefully to the floor.

Step 6. Identify the GRID LINAC MODULE marked with a glowing RED "Error" light. Release the four SIDE LATCHES (A1-B2) holding the module in place and carefully pull the module straight out of its enclosure. Be careful not to touch the ELECTRON GUN PREHEATER ASSEMBLY as this may still be extremely hot.

Step 7. Slide the replacement GRID LINAC MODULE into the LINAC MODULE BAY until a firm CLICK is heard. Engage the four SIDE LATCHES (A1-B2) until all high voltage contacts are fully seated. Confirm the GREEN "Ready" light illuminates. If this light does NOT illuminate, immediately stop work and contact superiors.

Step 8. Place the COLLIMATOR GRILLE back into position over the top of the LINAC MODULE STACK. Re-arm the DCA field, and lock the Local Override Panel cover in place using the PINK STRIPED KEY. After exiting the room, remember to seal the interior blast doors.

Step 9. Once back inside the Supervisory Security Area, Release the "Lock Out, Tag Out" padlock and flip the Weapon System Master Isolation Switch back to the ENGAGED position. If the switch is physically unable to be flipped, return to the antechamber room and re-confirm the local DCA field is operational, all manual overrides have been released, and the collimator shield is locked in place.

Step 10. Run Operational Test Sequence B-7 and confirm successful full sweep of the room via the antechamber camera system. Ensure beam energies measured by the self-test system fall within the lethal range. If the new module fails to illuminate, contact Metatron support.

Control Panel Components

Ingress and Egress Panel

The Ingress and Egress Panel controls the operational state of the antechamber airlock, particularly concerning the ingress and egress flows to and from the secure area (the high side).

This panel contains a set of indicator lamps showing the current status of the system:

  • WAITING: Both the low side and high side doors are closed and sealed. The system is waiting for an individual to present a valid credential to the reader on either side.
  • CYCLING: Either the low side or high side doors are cycling open or closed.
  • SCANNING: The Sentinel unit is conducting a scan of the occupant.
  • DOOR ALARM: Either the low-side or high-side door is in an alarm condition. The system will not change state (except to LIVE FIRE) until the alarm has been cleared.
  • SCAN ALARM: The Sentinel unit has rejected the occupant and they have been sealed inside. The system is waiting for a low-side guard to release the low-side doors, and once the occupant has been removed, the high-side control room operator must clear the alarm.
  • LIVE FIRE: The Sentinel unit has detected a hostile occupant and is firing its weapon systems.
  • CLEANING: The Sentinel unit is conducting an automatic post-cycle sweep.

It also contains one set of indicator lamps per blast door (low side and high side):

  • OPEN: The blast door is in the open position.
  • OPENING: The blast door is moving to the open position.
  • CLOSING: The blast door is moving to the closed position.
  • CLOSED: The blast door is in the closed position. This does not necessarily imply it is locked.
  • LOCKED: The blast door is locked and sealed in the closed position.
  • ALARM: The blast door is in the alarm condition.

The Security Ingress/Egress State Switch can be set to two positions: AUTOMATIC and MANUAL. AUTOMATIC reflects the normal operation of the system, where the airlock and Sentinel will cycle automatically, while MANUAL will prevent all state changes. Note that MANUAL does NOT disarm the Sentinel weapon system. The weapon system must be isolated at the Maintenance Overrides Panel.

Maintenance Overrides Panel

The Maintenance Overrides Panel contains the Weapon System Master Isolation Switch, which allows the Sentinel weapon systems to be made safe. It can be set to two positions: SEVERED and ENGAGED. Flipping the isolation switch to the SEVERED position will physically disconnect power to the Sentinel's GRID weapons. Note that the switch contains an electromechanical interlock to prevent it from changing: (a) into the SEVERED position while the Security Ingress/Egress State Switch is set to AUTOMATIC or the airlock status is anything but WAITING; and (b) into the ENGAGED position while any Sentinel faults or tampers are shown.
