Intrinsic Authentication (IA) is a type of cryptographic authentication system that relies on either an IDAS implant (for organics) or a Cryptographic Identity Authentication Module (for synthetics) that's embedded, usually permanently, into an individual's body. IA protocols are standardised under interstellar regulations and can be used for applications like the verification of one's identity or the unlocking of personal computing devices, such as PDAs.

A type of intrinsic authentication called "Enhanced Conscious Confirmation" (ECC) is supported by all CIAMs (and IDAS implants that are linked into one's cybernetic computer). ECC requires confirmation by the individual after a prompt is displayed on their HUD or internal desktop.
