A laser satellite (LASSAT) is an orbital laser weapon integrated with a satellite that can be repositioned to attack any area of land, usually with devastating effect. Their power capabilities are not on the level of nuclear weapons or orbital kinetic impactors, but it is enough such that entire buildings or large vessels such as aircraft carriers can easily be destroyed.

Laser satellites are advantageous in that they do not require ammunition and charge passively from solar power, but are limited in the fact they must wait long periods of time between recharge cycles, often multiple days. This fact, however, can be mitigated by the deployment of multiple satellites.

History

Laser satellites were developed in the early 2020s by the Helios Corporation as part of a contract for the Ministry of Defence; and while initially kept secret by the government, their use in the Küiser Laboratories both revealed their existence to the world and resulted in many governments sanctioning the United Kingdom for the perceived escalation.
