Internal Security (INTSEC) is the personnel security and counterintelligence arm of Raven, designed to combat insider risks. It is headquartered in Black Mountain, and divided into several sub-departments, including Technical Security R&D, Access Control Management, Auditing & Logging, Personnel Intelligence, Onboarding & Offboarding, Special Ops, and Vetting. It works closely with Raven's Strategic Intelligence Office (SIO), and is responsible for information classification, declassification, and clearance issuance, renewal, and revocation. It is also responsible for safeguarding the organisation's most protected command capabilities, including cryptographic authority to use cataclysmic exophysical weapons. The department's current leader is Director Enos Shor. It answers only to the High Council.
Internal Security personnel very rarely have a face at Raven, and many do not regularly leave the Sigma Unit. Often the only communications one will have with them is via email, stripped of all identifying information such as names. Even voice calls are exceptional. Only psychological handlers, who work under Vetting, are seen on video calls. Though they work only on protocol, they are feared inside the organisation, and their presence outside the Sigma Unit is treated as an indicator of a very serious incident. INTSEC agents have the power to detain any employee at any time if they become a suspect in an investigation, and give orders that bypass the usual chain of command; for this reason, Internal Security is a department that often invites a large amount of scrutiny from the Council, something that it is acutely aware of.
Divisions
Special Ops
The Special Ops division of Internal Security is a militarised force of agents who are equipped similarly to Calamity Mitigation operatives - exosuits, exophysical weaponry and fractal armour. Operatives are distinguished by their unique white exosuits, which mirror the colour of the Sigma Unit's cleanroom garments. The division is further divided into Field Operations, Area Defence, and Close Protection teams. Field Operations agents enforce the will of Raven in the wider Black Mountain and at other Raven facilities; Area Defence agents specifically defend the Sigma Unit and other Sigma-classified areas, such as those where Sigma-cleared personnel will be likely to reside. Close Protection teams are responsible for personally guarding Sigma-cleared personnel when outside the Sigma Unit, such as members of the High Council. Agents are highly trained and professional, again similar to CMI operatives, and possess a high degree of operational discretion. They have the authority to act completely independently, should the justification arise.
Alongside RFPD officers and military police, INTSEC agents are the only personnel permitted to carry firearms inside Raven facilities. Agents are most often recruited from Calamity Mitigation fireteams. The total number of agents is very small at any given time, often between 2000-3000, compared to CMI's 10000-20000 active operatives.
