Large Language Model

From Calamity Wiki

A Large Language Model (LLM) was a type of non-sapient algorithm popularised in the 2020s, and one of the first widespread uses of machine learning technology. The emergence of LLMs and generative AI as a whole created an economic bubble that burst near the end of the decade as companies and governments realised the fundamental flaws of the technology and that its disadvantages outweighed its benefits. The main features from LLMs retained post-crash were mostly related to LLMs' original purpose in language: autocomplete, translation, grammar checking, and image description. The LLM terminology fell out of favour soon after, and its legacy would stand as a minor footnote in humanity’s development of smart algorithms.
