Firebreak

A firebreak (abbreviated FBK in documentation) is a type of safety and security feature commonly found in Raven and Interdimensional Research Treaty Organisation (IRTO) installations that insulates sectors from one another, protecting against all manner of threats, including atmospheric contamination, biological and nanotech hazards, and radiation. Firebreaks utilise a hermetically sealed airlock-type blast door system with multiple lanes for both entrance and exit; the interior of the airlock spans the firebreak partition. These airlocks also function as general access control for the sector.

Sometimes, high-risk sectors will feature multiple internal firebreaks. This is common in Research (Sector R) in Black Mountain, especially on the Containment floor where specific subsections must be isolated from each other. The high-security requirements mandatory for sector-level firebreaks are optional at the subsector level.
