There are multiple classes of weaponry in the Calamity Multiverse, including kinetic, energy, and exophysical variants. In the Coalition, they are regulated under weapon classing regulations.
Types
Kinetic
Kinetic weapons are the most common, the cheapest, and the most reliable. They include not just conventional firearms, but also types that use energy to drive a projectile, such as railguns. They are used by everyone, from individuals to corporations. However, with recent advances in armour and forcefield-based shielding technologies, kinetic weaponry is not as effective as it once was.
Energy
Energy weapons sit alongside kinetic weapons. They are weapons that utilise energy to fire, and do not require projectile-based ammunition. There are several subtypes of energy weapons, including heat (Entropy), radiation (GRID), and annihilation (Oblivion, Phantom Hammer). Most energy weapons are instantaneous beam weapons, but some are not. Because energy weapons tend to be more expensive than kinetic weapons, they are seen as a status symbol. Their use is also situational, as especially reflective targets may be resistant to them.
Exophysical
Exophysical weaponry includes all weaponry that acts by manipulating the fundamental workings of reality, including both those that operate on the principles of entropics (Excision) and substratics (Null Driver). Exophysical weapons are extremely heavily controlled, and their possession is restricted to Raven under the Dimensional Security Accords. They are by far the most destructive, and are only possessed by the most powerful players in the multiverse, such as Raven, Dreams Intelligence, the Aegis Institute the Ir'vaki, and the Vertex Network.
