A datafluid is a fluid-based storage substance. Most datafluids are ferromagnetic, meaning they store information using a large number of ferromagnetic granules each storing an ordered data segment, similarly to tape or platters in a magnetic disk. The disordered nature of datafluids at a high level means reads and writes are effectively random operations.
Datafluids can be enclosed in a fluidic disk for storage, but can also be transported by specialised pipes to form a larger-scale fluidic network. Fluidic networks have some advantages over standard computer networks; they trade latency for a much higher transfer rate.
