Southern Exclusion Zone

From Calamity Wiki

The Southern Exclusion Zone (SEZ) was a large and extremely hazardous area that bordered Great Britain, the Thames Republic and the Republic of Wales. It intersected the historical counties of Hertfordshire and Essex. Thanks to the advent of groundbreaking research and monumental, near-century-long cleanup work performed by the Department for Exophysics, the SEZ was mostly restored, allowing some of its original occupants to return, and entropic radiation levels in the area are eventually expected to return to normal. Key rail routes have also been re-established through the zone. After its cleanup, the area became known as the Southern Reclamation Zone.

The area was created during the London Revolution, when a retreating Helios Private Military Corps demolition team detonated a prototype Entropic Flashover Bomb (EFB), severely corrupting its manifolds. The manifold damage in the SEZ led to the attenuation and shifting of high frequencies, resulting in disruption of radio transmissions and the alteration of sunlight, leading to the zone exhibiting a distinctive red sky. After the war, the area became treated as a de facto no man’s land, enforcing the boundary between Great Britain and the Thames Republic, until cleanup efforts began.
