PRISM
PRISM is a line of synthetic bodies developed by Sakura Cybernetics in the late-2240s, intended to be both low-cost and open-source. They cater both to artificial intelligences, as well as uploaded humans, and feature both robotic and organic models. Frames and frame parts are built at fully automated synthetic manufacturing facilities (SMFs) throughout the Solar System, and are custom built to their inhabitants’ specifications, such as height, body build, gender, colour, materials, and features.
Three main classes of frames exist: Class A, which appear robotic, Class B, which appear organic, and Class C, the hybridisation of both. Though it is traditional for AIs to inhabit Class As or Cs and uploaded humans and anthros to inhabit Class Bs, the lines have become blurred over time, with many AIs now opting for Class Bs and some uploads opting to transition to Class A/Cs, though the latter is rarer.
Designs
Class A
Class A PRISM frames were the first to be developed and originally began development in parallel with the FRACTAL program. These frames were themed on and shared many components with anthropomorphic industrial robots that utilised non-sapient algorithms. Key visual characteristics of Class A frames are visible metallic surfaces, exposed or semi-exposed joint internals and cabling, and visor-type faceplates with cameras positioned behind. Today, Class A frames remain the most popular frame type for artificial intelligences, and individuals with Class A frames are sought-after in industry due to the modularity and resilience of the Class A platform.
Class B
Class B frames were developed in parallel with mind uploading technology, and aimed to allow unmodified or anthro humans to retain their physical appearance, a heavily desired request. Instead of being based on industrial robotics, Class B frames were engineered from the ground up to appear organic, with skin, hair, fur, and smooth curves instead of sharp edges. They trade resilience for appearance, as synthetic skin isn’t nearly as abrasion resistant as metal. Class B frames were also the first to feature synthetic genitals, which by osmosis resulted in many AIs becoming interested and requesting the feature on Class A frames.
Class C
Class C frames came a longer period of time after Class B, and acted as the hybridisation of Class A with Class B: for example, an anthro body with a visor face, or a more machine-like body with smooth, organic-like curves. Though they incorporate aspects of both previous classes, they were a completely new design system developed by Sakura, allowing for unparalleled new levels of customisation. An example of such an individual is Cypher, a visor-type anthro bipedal synthetic.
