The Exertus Annex was a sector in the Girvan Offshore Science Facility (GOSF) intended as both command facilities and living quarters for staff working on the project. The vast sector had over 200 separate levels, but less than fifty remained accessible after the automatic cement vitrification that occurred during the Island Containment Breach. Exertus gained an almost mythological status among researchers of the GOSF and became widely circulated among popular culture, especially in communities adjacent to academia, as a truly lost place filled with unknowns, and a virtually inaccessible, beyond dangerous relic of a bygone era.

It is also known that Exertus was utilised for “more general” research purposes, while Arctarus was primarily utilised for the most dangerous experiments that required reactor access. Laboratories make up the majority of the vitrified parts, whilst most of the command and accommodation levels failed to properly seal. What research was conducted there is unknown, and all evidence was erased permanently during Operation Lighthouse. While Black Research SPIKE attempted to drill through some of the concrete to reach the sealed laboratories, SPIKE ultimately abandoned the endeavour to minimise risk to personnel.
