Antimatter

Antimatter is matter that is comprised of the antiparticles of corresponding ordinary particles. It is one of the most important strategic resources in human society, as it is essential to interstellar travel, energy generation, and weapons development. While antimatter production was historically conducted in surface laboratories like the European Antimatter Factory, the industrial scale of production required for interstellar spaceflight combined with the potential risks from an inadvertent containment breach forced production to move to orbital antimatter factories, where it is also more suited to be immediately loaded into departing interstellar spacecraft.
