Esoterica
Esoterica, or esoterics, is the name of a cryptic phenomenon in human society that involves the utilisation of Precursor technology and the principles of substratics and psionics as thaumatology, a crude type of applied exophysics codified as magic. Though today the community is dwarfed by the scale of humanity’s legitimate exophysics industry, its culture continues to thrive, and occasionally even synergises with that of the industry due to its unique approaches to scientific problems. The most prominent organisations in the esoterics community include the Council of Exotic Artefact Affairs (CEAA), the Aegis Institute, and The Power Company. Aegis, considered the apex of thaumatology, secretly takes a different approach, using real exophysics in place of the crude pseudoscientific methods that once defined the community.
Esoterics as a phenomenon originated on Earth during the 19th century, after excavated Precursor artefacts fell into the hands of a number of secret, often semi-religious societies. World governments soon took interest, forming organisations such as the Department for Esoterics and the Council of Exotic Artefact Affairs to safeguard, research, and even worship them. In the present day, the esoterica community is largely constrained by world governments, operating under the blessing of Raven in return for research-sharing agreements.
