State Defence Section
The State Defence Section (SDS) is the Thames Republic's foreign and domestic defence department. It was created from components of the Ministry of Defence were loyal to London when the country gained independence from the United Kingdom. The SDS works closely with the Coalition and international bodies such as Raven to share intelligence. The SDS has multiple administration and defence facilities spread over the city of London and its outskirts, the vast majority formerly Ministry of Defence facilities and installations, such as the Kensington Military Research Base, the Fort Laurent Command Facility, and the MoD Main Building.
History
The SDS is unique in that it consolidates both foreign and domestic operations; unifying MI5, MI6, and the MoD into one entity. This was a point of contention early in the formation of the ROL, owing to the slippery slope of allowing the military to act domestically without restrictions. The decision to form the SDS on this basis was made to reduce friction in dealing with the active threats that affected the Republic at the time; including terrorism, corporate conflicts, tension in the South, and several extreme weather events resulting from the Climate Crisis.
