Northbrook Portal Disaster
The Northbrook Portal Disaster was an event that happened in 2255 at the Northbrook Polytechnic, when several of the newly installed ion units closed their portals due to a malfunction in the building's portal management system. This left students stuck inside the portal thresholds for several days before Metatron was able to safely relink the units. Several died due to crushing, suffocation, or dehydration.
The disaster resulted in the complete removal of the prototype system from the college and the launching of an extensive Raven investigation into Metatron's manifold dynamics division, resulting in the enforcement of more stringent safety precautions for portal generation hardware including backup power supplies and intrinsically safe control equipment.
