Central Martian Government

The Central Martian Government is the dominant government of Mars, encompassing primarily equatorial territory, covering the local colonies in the Valles Marineris, Elysium Planitia, and Olympus Mons regions. The headquarters of the Central Martian Government is located in Hellas City, a terraformed and partially underground city located in the Hellas Planitia. The government primarily embraces egalitarian ethics and is a representative democracy; the country is also highly diverse, with a mixed European, Australian, and West African cultural background, originating from missions backed by the ESA, ASA, and NSRDA during and after the Second Space Race.

History

During the Second Space Race, the European Union, Australia, and Nigeria bound together in an open international effort to push the frontier of Mars for the collective good of the world, whilst India, China, and the United States refused to collaborate to further their own private initiatives. While they were not the first to Mars or even the first to establish a settlement on the planet, the initiative had the foresight to plan for many logistical challenges other nations ran into after breaking ground, which put them ahead once they arrived.
