The Electric Shed was a metal shed on the surface of The Island which later handled the processing of communications with the facility below. It was built sometime during the 1990s. Later, some of its network hardware was upgraded by Küiser, though the network still depended on many pieces of old hardware.

The shed had a secret underground control room in the subfloor, which had a direct connection to Exertus through the shed's network. This control room was intended to allow surface emergency personnel to monitor the facility in the case of an evacuation.

Hardware

The Electric Shed originally featured computing hardware which was installed during the final phases of the facility's construction in the 1980s. Most of the network equipment was based on a very early token ring architecture, and the shed housed two IBM System/370 mainframes used for data processing. Later, a third System/390 mainframe was installed.

Operation

The shed controlled three independent networks: the Surface System, the Mine System, and the Time System. The former connected to systems on the surface of the island, while the Mine System connected to the underground facility via the The Switchboard.

The Time System was a system to synchronise data from the Avernus Cavity Reactor (ACR) with a machine in an unknown location that would perform temporal manipulation experiments. For this purpose, a special data processor mainframe was originally present in the shed; however, it was removed by Josie Galray's team and thrown into the ocean some time before the island was abandoned by Nevrin. Some remnants of it still remained after, such as a three-pronged cable marked with the words "Time Plug". Later dredging of the ocean floor conducted by Raven during Operation Lighthouse yielded the remains of the computer equipment, but it was destroyed by corrosion.
