The Lighthouse

The Lighthouse was a location on The Island which distributed electrical power to the surface buildings, as well as holding communications equipment & antennas used by the Electric Shed. The structure distributed power to the island from three independent networks: the Main Supply, fed from the power systems of the Girvan Offshore Science Facility; Aux Supply 1, fed from a surface generator system; and Aux Supply 2, fed from the secondary surface generator.

Communications

At the top of the lighthouse two STORM transceivers were mounted for off-Island communications, data lines connected to terminals in the Electric Shed. Due to the amounts of power these required, the transceivers only operated when the main power supply was operational. These devices were not original to the island; having been installed by Küiser Laboratories as part of the never-completed Island Resurrection Project (IRP).
