Synthetic Manufacturing Facility
A Synthetic Manufacturing Facility (SMF) is a location where synthetics are built. Sakura Cybernetics operates the largest number of SMFs across humanity. The facilities operate much like vehicular assembly lines, with numerous stations building individual components and eventually entire frames from scratch. They are subject to strict requirements under the Sapient Intelligence Accords to ensure quality control and supply chain security. Only appropriately licensed SMFs may issue the manufacturing provenance certificates required to submit a synthetic for registration by a Synthetic Registration Authority.
SMFs are split into sterile and non-sterile areas. The non-sterile areas make up the majority of the facility, while the sterile areas are where SI cores are assembled, seeded, armed for tamper detection, and installed into frames; it is also where a frame's internal components undergo inspection and scanning to prove they have not been tampered with. Any personnel inside the sterile area are required to undergo vetting, and all work is performed under strict supervision.
