From Calamity Wiki

Alan Clayton (28 August 1983 – 16 November 2061) was a Küiser Laboratories distinguished researcher with a PhD in theoretical physics, who was head of its Dimensional Research division and led the Island Resurrection Project (IRP) after the founding of the company. During the project, Alan disappeared during an IRP expedition into the Exertus Annex of the Girvan Offshore Science Facility (GOSF), and was presumed deceased. He re-emerged nearly 40 years later as an aged man, sharing the information he gathered with the Interdimensional Research Treaty Organisation (IRTO).

Entrapment

During the Island Resurrection Project, Alan led the first expedition into the facility's Exertus Annex, where his team was unexpectedly ambushed by a sapient anomaly known as the Tunneller. He managed to escape while his team were slaughtered by the anomaly, and fell down a partially sealed ventilation shaft where he landed on Sublevel -27 of Exertus and was knocked unconscious. When he recovered, he continued to be pursued by the anomaly but tricked it into crossing the bridge to the Geoengineering Sector over an abyss and rigged it to fall, causing it to plummet down into the cavern and perish. However, he was now stuck on that side of the bridge with no way across.

Alan spent the next 40 years in the facility, as he slowly mapped out its depths and subsided off canned food and water condensation from the surface ventilation systems. While looking for a way out, he broke into the Exertus main control rooms, and discovered the Avernus Cavity Reactor (ACR) below was still operating, as well as the activities of the The Selerian Horror on video feeds. He eventually managed to escape in 2061 after he restored power to parts of the facility and built a jury-rigged walkway of his own, seeing daylight for the first time in decades.

Legacy

After sharing his knowledge of the facility with the world, Alan was hailed as a hero. He finally managed to bring to the true nature of Nevrin's operations into the light, and prove how bad of a state of affairs the GOSF was in. His actions prompted IRTO (& later Raven) to begin planning Operation Lighthouse to safely decommission the facility, and the reconnaissance he performed during his time inside was considered immensely valuable to the cleanup forces. Tragically, he died shortly after his escape from mesothelioma and chronic exposure to entropic radiation. Before he passed away, he donated his body to the Whipps Cross University Hospital for use in studying the effects of E-rad exposure in the hospital's new entropics unit.
