New Civil War

The New Civil War was a partially successful insurrection led by the United Militia that took place in the United States of America in 2091 against the incumbent oligarchy. The war was aggravated by several factors, including the government's negative stance towards anthros, the displacement of many citizens in order to make way for new production facilities and pit mines, general unemployment resulting from mass layoffs, an ever-increasing cost of living, and corruption undermining the legislature and justice system.

The war resulted in two main groups emerging; the citizen-led states and the corporate-led states. The former, with access to more firepower than the latter, took control of the central government and issued the corporations with a set of demands to avoid further military action, with an intent to guarantee universal rights for citizens of those states, including equality for anthros, universal basic income, and protections against unfair layoffs. It also resulted in the closer alignment of the US with the neighbouring West Coast Free States, and the alienation of the right-wing Republic of Texas and the New Patriot States.
