Humanity

Humanity is a spacefaring race of sapients localised in the Solar System, historically primarily on Earth, but now distributed among many star systems, including Alpha Centurai and GG 3378. Originally a carbon-based organic species, humans have evolved with the assistance of science, modifying their bodies with gene editing technology, and even constructing fully synthetic minds and bodies. Most closely neighboured with the Ir'vaki, humanity’s discovery of exophysics during the 20th and 21st centuries and its continued experimentation with the field has threatened to destabilise the local stellar and dimensional communities, positioning humanity as one of the greatest active threats to reality. Despite this, humanity is far from monolithic, and those who attempt to stray too far from reason are almost always eventually met with an equal and opposite force, making it self-regulating, but only to an extent. Humanity now sits constantly on a carefully balanced fulcrum, and even just one failure to right it when it begins to fall out of balance would tip it over with no way back.
