Climber
Appearance
Climbers were special long-distance elevators developed by Nevrin in the mid-19th Century, to withstand the high pressures of descending multiple kilometres underground to installations such as the London Underground City. In order to descend quickly, the machines had a mechanism where they could ratchet down and enter freefall. This mirrored the Vertical Rail System also developed by Nevrin.
The climber cars were decelerated at the bottom by a spring and braking assembly. They were built in a tubular shape, with real wood combined with iron in an art deco style. The machinery was nearly fully manual, and possessed no electromechanical safety systems.
