Synthetic Registration Authority

A synthetic registration authority (SRA) is a local government body that issues certificates for new synthetics to allow them to use their Cryptographic Identity Authentication Module (CIAM) for identify verification. They can also assist synthetics with damaged or missing CIAMs, and issue a temporary CIAM, provided they undergo a sometimes lengthy identity verification process. Country-based examples of SRAs include the Thames Republic’s Department of Births, Deaths, and Marriages and the Coalition's Universal Registration Authority (URA), which functions as a SRA for synthetics without a local authority.

Those holding a compliant license under Article 4 of the Sapient Intelligence Accords can submit a new synthetic for registration on their behalf, although synthetics can always submit themselves. Said synthetic must contain a CIAM originating from a licensed manufacturer and the module must contain an integrated vendor certificate to assert that it was not tampered with since it left the factory.
