Coilcar
A coilcar is a type of jury-rigged electric train that is used by gangs of the Silent Zone for long-distance travel through the most dangerous parts of the Zone. Fundamentally, it is built around a massive three-coil electric motor, known as a “dynamo”, salvaged from a certain type of communal air conditioning compressor that was popular in New Sublantica. It receives power from the tracks, which are still connected to the partially functioning electrical grid.
Coilcars can only carry a small number of people, usually around 4-5. They can operate at speeds of up to 300km/h in ideal conditions. They are considered to be extremely dangerous for many reasons, including the internal moving parts of the drivetrain being directly exposed to occupants and the risk of the train literally flying off the tracks in overspeed conditions at peaks in the route.
