Smoking
Smoking is a type of activity that is popular in human society. While it began a decline in the early 21st Century due to justified health concerns, it began gathering a resurgence towards the mid-late end of the century due to the emergence of nearly completely effective cancer treatment, gene editing to make oneself immune to the harmful effects of combustion products, and even the upload of people into synthetic bodies immune to the constraints of organics. This has caused "big tobacco" to rise once again in the world and become highly profitable.
The vast majority of the population still do not smoke, as they consider it a bad habit for other reasons, but smoking is often marketed heavily towards corporate employees, who in certain corporate circles view it as a socially required activity. Smoking is popular at corporations such as Paradigm, while, for example, it is outright banned at Metatron. Many of humanity's largest corporations also hold a stake in big tobacco firms or participate in tobacco manufacturing themselves, with their own branded cigarettes.
