Alex Z-41 is a synthetic and the CSO of Sakura Cybernetics. Originally a human, they were transferred into the first prototype ALEX unit developed by Küiser Laboratories, and their original body was later swapped out for a modern anthro PRISM frame when it began to exhibit signs of age. They are the oldest surviving synthetic ever created.

As a Blackbird revolutionary, Alex led the charge in London to destroy Helios Tower, making them directly responsible for the events of the revolution and the creation of the Thames Republic. Despite this, they deliberately asked to keep their contributions to the revolution secret, not wanting to attract the public attention being labelled a hero would bring. They currently live in the Republic, but often undertake interplanetary travel for both work and leisure.

Appearance

Alex is a slim anthro wolf with white fur and light grey markings, and is approximately 5'8" tall. They have black hair and blue eyes. As is common with most PRISM synths, their right wrist sports a glowing status ring that indicates their power status. They have a long, bushy tail similar to other lupine anthros.

Their body includes many non-standard modifications above even those granted to Sakura employees; including a custom long-range radio system, triple-composite subdermal armour, a smart weapon target acquisition computer, and a heads-up display based on open source software originally used by Blackbird revolutionaries.

Personality

Alex is highly intelligent, and is often curious, constantly in the pursuit of knowledge. They like to deeply understand how systems work, studying them carefully and building their own from scratch. They have highly egalitarian and socialist ethics; commonly advocating for tighter regulations against megacorporations and higher scrutiny over organisations such as Raven.

They are often burdened by demons of the past; both in relation to their creation and the conflicts they fought in, worrying whether they could have prevented more loss of life than they did. They're generally a pacifist, though they don't hesitate to use proportionate force to protect those they care about.

Hobbies

Besides their position at Sakura, Alex is involved in a large number of personal activities. These include open security research and working on a number of personal open-source projects. They travel often, with a near-unlimited travel budget paid for by Sakura. They are also a gamer, and they participate in both real-world and VR combat tournaments as a way to keep their skills sharp. Additionally, they are involved in the sports of ice and rock climbing. They are also frequently involved in urban exploration. In most of their hobbies, they prefer to stay pseudonymous for operational security reasons, though they share more with those they trust.

Occasionally, Alex also conducts covert operations against megacorporations and other entities with the assistance of close friends, in efforts to expose illicit or unethical activities. Due to the high risks involved, this is not something they do often. These operations have resulted in the public exposure of several illegal BioCorp and Paradigm projects; Helios Corporation is also a target for them due to their personal history with the company.

Early life

Little is known about Alex's identity before their conversion. Originally, Alex was a 20-year-old human who was diagnosed with a terminal disease. Before their death in 2022, they signed away their body to science. As they passed, their body was given to Küiser, and their mind later became among the basis for their prototype androids.

Captivity and escape

Küiser testing

Between 2025 and 2038, Küiser ran androids through an assortment of trials in US-based Epsilon-B Testing Facility to assess and debug the function of their problem-solving and combat systems. This involved repeated spatial problem-solving scenarios as well as traumatic life and death situations, such as where androids such as Alex were pursued by SSRMs.

Though Alex's long-term memory was wiped after each test, the erasures were not completely successful, leaving them with lasting PTSD to the present day surrounding their experiences inside the facilities. In Küiser's experimental logs, they recorded Alex as showing some of the most positive results out of all test subjects and highlighted them as an "exemplar subject".

Escape

In early 2038, Helios Corporation moved to purchase Küiser Laboratories after the company entered into insolvency proceedings following the termination of its MoD contract. Fearful of what Helios could do with their research, key scientists behind the project including Timothy Barretto devised a plan.

As Helios security invaded the Küiser robotics laboratory, Timothy and the other senior lab technicians uploaded the last remaining copy of the project data into Alex and set them free. Helios began pursuing Alex to capture the data, but was stopped when they attempted to cross the border into Germany by local military forces.

Career

London Revolution

In the late 2040s, Alex was recruited as a member of the London-based insurgent group Blackbird, who aimed to release the grip Helios held on Central London. Fuelled by their hatred of Helios, both for their near-absolute grip over the country and for the slaughter of the Küiser scientists that created them, they decided this would be their goal. In =Worlds/1 Calamity/Locations/Milky Way/Solar System/Earth/Europe/Northwest Europe/Great Britain/*Events/London Revolution.date.year, an elite group of Blackbird operatives led by Alex was responsible for launching the assault on Helios Tower that destroyed the tower and began the London Revolution.

Sakura Cybernetics

In 2145, Alex met Vector Sakura, then a robotics postgraduate at the Osaka University, while travelling. Vector, who was already a biological anthro, was attempting to develop a framework for open-source, affordable synthetic bodies. After getting to know and trust Vector, Alex told her about their synthetic nature, and revealed that they possessed the only remaining copy of the original ALEX project files.

The next year, Alex co-founded the Sakura Cybernetics nonprofit with Vector, as well as several of her friends. With their influence in the Thames Republic government due to their status as one of the original revolutionaries, they managed to secure a significant amount of funding for the company. Sakura acted as the figurehead for the company, as they continued to prefer a low profile. With both funding and plans secured, Sakura began development on the PRISM project.

After Alex finished volunteering themselves for non-destructive reverse engineering, they continued at the company, acting in the role of Chief Security Office (CSO); overseeing the platform security of PRISM as well as counterintelligence operations against megacorporations that wanted to steal the technology. With the official release of PRISM to the public in the early 2200s, and their original body exhibiting signs of wear from age, they switched to a modern PRISM frame. They remain at the company to the present day in their current role.
