The Ark Facility was an Artemis Corporation compound located near a river in a forested area of City Central, Sublantica-17. The facility was advertised as a safe haven from a neurotoxin threat announced in the city at the time, however, it was the opposite; a trap to lure a large amount of people into a captive area that would be pumped full of Nevrin-54, in order to test the effectiveness of the toxin. Overseen by Eric Artemis, the compound was originally a derelict research facility, and was retrofitted in less than a week to look convincing to its population. It had a "cyberpunk" aesthetic, with holographic displays, many of which were malfunctioning.

Purpose

During the 2050s, the World Küiser Corporation initiated the WKCNE experiment, the purpose of which was to develop a working version of the Nevrin-54 neurotoxin that could be used to suppress revolutions en masse. The corporation required a way to test a prototype of the agent on a large number of people in order to ascertain its efficacy, and the WKC and Artemis cooperated to develop a plan. The first part of the plan was to spread public fear of contamination from enemy biological weapons in the atmosphere of Sublantica-17 via the state-controlled media. This would be backed up by testimonies from "experts" such as Dr. Ian Reynolds, who were being paid out of the pockets of the WKC.

The second part was for Artemis to advertise the Ark Project, a "safe and secure haven" for citizens to wait out the contamination in a bunker, with a capacity of 15,000 people and ticket prices that started at $2.4m per person. This would ensure that the same resource that allowed the WKC to test the neurotoxin would also personally pad out the pockets of Artemis Corporation executives. Finally, the third part was to permanently seal the doors of the facility and flood it with Nevrin-54. This last step, however, did not go to plan, as the experiment was narrowly foiled by a team of revolutionaries that forced open the blast doors after realising its true nature; despite attempts by the WKC military to seal it with thermite.
