Wormhole

A wormhole is a manifold that connects two different locations in the same physical dimension, as opposed to bridges, which transit between different dimensions. Wormholes are significantly simpler to create than bridges, and are also much lesser regulated. However, they create different challenges, including energy requirements scaling linearly with physical distance and require setting up infrastructure at both the entrance and exit points. This restricts the use of wormholes to short-distance applications (i.e. portals for personnel within a facility), or long-distance applications that only transfer tiny amounts of mass (i.e. the wormhole relays that allow faster-than-light communication with deep space colonies)
