This template is designed to illustrate endonyms [self-designations] with divergent forms for the people, nation, and language, as are commonly found in Bantu and other African languages. It takes between one and five parameters.
Minimal example
| Person | Motswana |
|---|---|
| People | Batswana |
| Language | Setswana |
At a minimum, the template requires three parameters, for a person, the people, and the language, as below and at right:

Full example
| Tswana | |
|---|---|
| Person | Motswana |
| People | Batswana |
| Language | Setswana |
| Country | Botswana |
If a fourth parameter is added, it will show up as the country. A fifth may be used for the root word as a title for the box:

If the fourth parameter is left empty, the 'country' row will not appear, even with a title in the fifth slot.
