Detroit
The lower levels were a maze of winding streets, decaying buildings, and cables hanging from rooftop to rooftop like snakes. It was darker down there, with more of the upper levels obscuring the sun and even most of the lights from the powers above.
Detroit, officially the Free Municipality of Detroit, is a large megacity located in Michigan. By the 2170s, after decades of heavy construction, the original streets became buried in levels so massive they developed their own weather systems. Widely known as the centre of corporate America, the city's upper levels are dominated by CORE Group, BioCorp, and Paradigm, all vying for control over their own pieces of the city. Largely not present is Q Labs, which instead dominates the West Coast. Society gradually degrades towards the bottom layers, where gangs and lawlessness reign. Fights often ensue between gangs and the military, often resulting in civilian casualties. It is a city at war with itself.
Security
Detroit is a highly militarised city. The constant gang activity within has pushed the city limits to become very restricted, and the Canadian border is also heavily protected. Entering Detroit is a very different experience for corporate executives, who generally fly in via plane or spacecraft and bypass road routes entirely. Entering the "city core" requires walking through control areas where people are required to raise their hands in the air while automatic turrets track them, and inside there are numerous more checkpoints between the highest-risk areas that involve lethal response for non-compliance.
